Why Sports?                     Sports Offered At WCCS                    Athletic Update

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me . . .

(Philippians 3:15)

Why sports at a Christian school?

  1. Discipline - Discipline guards the flesh from laziness (1 Corinthians 9:27).
  2. Character - Teamwork is about the team, not the individual (Matthew 20:27).
  3. Commitment - Sports teaches the athlete to be faithful to the coach and the team even when the going is tough.
  4. Fellowship - Teammates and coaches encourage us in our walk with Christ both on and off the court (Proverbs 18:1).
  5. Outreach - Sports are an avenue to reach the lost.

  Athletic Update

We are excited when we see God's hand moving in various aspects of our lives.  He has moved our school through many challenges and we have been extremely blessed this year.  We are grateful to those of you who pray for us regularly as we seek God's guidance for our short and long term needs.

We are sad to announce that Mr. Jim Grimes is leaving WCCS to pursue God's next step in Hils service.  We are grateful for the changes we have seen under Jim's service to the athletic department, and we ask you to join with us in praying for his family as they prepare for future challenges in ministry.  His love for the Lord and our students will be missed.

After a lengthy search for a new athletic director, God has led us to a familiarScurlock.jpg (53178 bytes) face who we feel will lead WCCS into the next era of excellence.  Celebrate with us as we announce Westminster Catawba Christian's new athletic director, Mr. Mike Scurlock.  If you remember Mike as our varsity football coach last fall, then you know the enthusiasm, Christian character and dedication to excellence Mike possesses.  He is excited about this new direction in his personal ministry, and he is seeking God's direction, not only for himself, but also for the focus and scope of our school's many athletic programs.

Continue your support in prayer for athletics at WCCS, as we strive to train the whole child - spiritually, academically, socially, and physically - to their fullest potential as young men and women who will glorify God throughout their lives.  Make every effort to extend to Mike Scurlock and his beautiful family your warmest welcome.  We also ask that you be willing to lend a helping hand in whatever areas needed in order to glorify God through our athletic endeavors.
