Julie
Volleyball Tournament
is
a Great Success!

The
Julie Volleyball Tournament was a great success raising $2,335
to support a church and Christian school in Haiti . The Julie
Volleyball Tournament began several years ago to honor Julie
Silverthorn, a former WCCS student who was critically injured
in a car accident. It is a two day, school-wide tournament
with teams representing students, faculty, staff and board.
This tournament is hosted each year by the Beta Club to help
raise funds for the Silverthorns or for a charity designated
by the Silverthorn family.

Grandparents
Day and Westminster Cup Golf Tournament Coming Soon!
On
Thursday, April 15, we
will be celebrating Grandparent's Day
on the Westminster campus
for grandparents of students pre-school through 3rd grade.
On Monday, April 19, we
will be teeing up for the 6th Annual Westminster
Cup Golf Tournament at the Tega Cay Golf
Club. This is a Ryder-Cup (Best Ball and Captain's Choice)
style tournament with WCCS and ROAR sports ministry. This
tournament has been a huge success over the past five years,
raising over $200,000 to impact the lives of children and
families for Christ through the ministries of ROAR and WCCS.
The winning side proudly displays the “Westminster Cup”
and “bragging rights” for the entire year. Last year,
we won the cup for the first time, 9-7! It was exciting that
the trophy found a new “home” at WCCS! Brochures can
be picked up on either campus. Register for the tournament
by March 19 and get a chance
to win a 3-night beach get-a-way to Seabrook Island, SC! Last
year, over $21,000 was raised through this awesome event.
If you are interested in volunteering for either Grandparent's
Day or Westminster Cup, please email lmccutchen@wccs.org.

Teddy
Bear Tea Party

During
the month of January, the preschool 4K classes studied animals
in winter. Each child researched a real animal to discover
its winter habits-- learning new concepts like hibernation,
migration, and adaptation. As a part of this study each class
created a bear cave in the classroom, and the children were
invited to bring a teddy bear from home to "hibernate"
at school in their classroom caves. During February, the bears
continued to sleep in their classroom caves, but the children
began to prepare for their Teddy Bear Tea Party. They painted
their own ceramic tea cups, decorated the classrooms with
colorful paper chains, and made paper hats and neckties to
wear for the party. Mrs. Libby Miller from the Etiquette School
of the Piedmont came the week before the party for three lessons,
covering table setting, proper introductions (practiced by
introducing their bears), the five uses of the napkin, and
other basic etiquette skills. The morning of the tea party,
the children decorated bear shaped sugar cookies to eat. At
the tea party the children sipped grape juice or chocolate
milk from their handmade teacups and ate their bear cookies
and fruit using their new etiquette skills. The highlight
of the tea party was a surprise visit by a giant "Teddy
Bear" who posed with each child for a special keepsake
picture. It was a happy and memorable day for all!

Community Blood Drive
Friday,
March 19
8:00
a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Catawba
Campus Chapel
Next
month, the WCCS Service Initiative will be hosting a blood
drive to support our local blood bank, Community Blood Centers
of the Carolinas. This is a local organization, and
all the blood donated during this drive will stay in this
area. CBCC provides most of the blood to our local area
hospitals including CMC, Piedmont and Presbyterian.
As an added incentive to giving blood, we are also partnering
with CBCC in their "Pint for Pounds"
campaign in which every pint of blood donated will result
in 6 pounds of food donated to Second Harvest Food
Bank! So not only will we be able to save lives,
but we will help to feed the hungry at the same time!
And, all donors receive a free t-shirt!
You may sign-up for a time slot by visiting www.cbcc.us/donate
and enter sponsor code: wccs.
You will then need to register if it is your first
time visiting their site, but this is basic information (name,
birthdate, email, etc.) It takes about one minute to
register and sign up for a time slot! Please join us
in this effort and mark your calendars for March 19.
