Parent Information

Information Literacy is the ability to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate and use effectively the needed information. Since information may be presented in a number of formats, the term information literacy applies to more than just the printed word. Other literacies such as visual, media, computer, network, and basic literacies are implicit in information literacy.

How Parents Can Help

The most important thing parents can do to improve their child's information literacy is READ. Read to your child, let your child see you read. Talk about books, magazines and other items that you read. Read different genres. Talk about what your child is reading. Read what your child is reading.
