Happy Thanksgiving from WCCS!

November 22, 2017
By Jennifer Polston

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” Psalm 100:4

With all the potential for distraction in the world we live in - technology, busy schedules, to-do lists, homework, holiday shopping, house cleaning, (you name it!) it's so easy to forget to take pause and truly reflect on the ways in which we are blessed. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, the Lord commands us to "Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." God is truly worthy of our praise, and we are forever indebted to him for the gift of our salvation! So, why does God command us to be thankful? Surely not because he needs it from us, though He does delight in it. No, it's his invitation to us to experience the true joy that comes with the realization of His grace and kindness in a world filled with greed, sin, and selfishness. Praise be to God for his never-ending mercy and blessings in our lives!

As we enter into the holiday season, we wanted to take a few moments to reflect on the Lord's goodness with our WCCS friends and family. We hope you enjoy reading some of these quotes from your fellow teachers, staff, and students.

“I am grateful for the Lord’s blessings upon my family during 2017 – a college graduation for Charlie III, marriage between Nikki & Charlie, new opportunities for Bailey at Anderson University, and fond memories with aging parents.” – Susan Westbrook, Business Office Assistant

“I am most grateful for my three little daughters and getting to see God at work in their hearts.” – Julie Stanford, Lower School Art Teacher

“I’m thankful for my 3 wonderful children (twins and a 5 year old) and my mother's recent scan showed her cancer spots are so much smaller! She's been fighting melanoma for a few years now. Praise God!” - Kimberly Sebastian, PreK-K5 Music Teacher

“Having the gift of salvation is the biggest blessing of all! I'm also just reminded more than ever of how blessed I am to have the family I have. I'm so thankful for a Godly husband and two beautiful children that we thought we would not be able to have. God is good, and He gives me more than I'll ever deserve!” – Nikki Cales, 3K Teacher

“I am thankful for a meaningful job/ministry where I can directly impact the Kingdom of God and have tons of fun doing my ‘work’!” – Deanne Regier, Social Studies Teacher

“The Lord has blessed us with our new home, after nine months of being in various transitional housing situations. We are next to our family and in a place where the kids can play freely. The extra space has allowed us opportunities to fellowship with and bless others.” – Kara Winn, 3rd Grade Teacher

“I am thankful for the grace upon grace that our Lord and Savior offers me and for the opportunity He gives us to share that with others at this school.” – Jane Wilson, Director of Admissions & Development

“I am thankful for a Godly heritage and Godly parents. Losing my second parent this year has helped me gain perspective on the kind of parent and kind of example I want to be for my daughter.” – Polly Baker, Upper School Receptionist

“I am most thankful for the legacy of faith handed down to my children from generation to generation!” – Scott Dillon, Head of School

“I am blessed by being able to teach the gospel every day as part of my job. It’s also a blessing to know that my child is hearing about God every day from his teachers.” – Ana Holz, 4th Grade Teacher

“As a family, we are thankful for the continued blessing God has provided so that Braxton can be loved, nurtured and appreciated for who he has been made in Christ. Every faculty and staff member is thoughtful, innovative and intentional in pointing all of our children to Christ in all that they do. Professionally, I am tremendously thankful that our service learning vision has taken root and ideas are plentiful. By integrating service learning with our curriculum, serving others has become more a more natural and meaningful conversation. The joy of hearing our students engage in serving others and seeing the plan come together is seeing His Word come to life.” – Karla Jollie, Administrative Assistant

“I am thankful for God’s protection and comfort. No matter if we experience mountaintop victories or valleys of despair, God’s peace is sustaining and consistent.” – Ashley Sapp, College & Career Counselor

“I am so thankful for the 29 years I have been at WCCS and for the friends that have blessed me during that time! What a joy it is to work alongside of such wonderful Christian men and women!” – Caroline Forster, Explore Lab & Service Learning Coordinator

We hope you will take some time around the dinner table this week to reflect as a family on the many ways the Lord has blessed you and your loved ones. Here are a few conversation starters that we hope will help!

  • Who in your life are you most thankful for?
  • What is a memory that brings you joy?
  • What is one specific way you have seen God move in your life this year?
  • What is a prayer that has been answered recently?
  • Why did God send his Son to us?

We would love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to comment and share your blessings with us.
