"Through our faith in Christ we are prepared for the battles ahead. The hard work and dedication needed in training for swim gives students the tools they will need to succeed in life."
What sport(s) do you coach?
I am the head coach for the Co-ed Varsity Swim team, and the assistant coach for Varsity Girls Soccer.
Tell Us a Little About Your Own Athletic Experience (high school, college, etc)
I've participated in swim since age 8 and played club soccer as a goalkeeper from age 11 to 17. In swim, I set a state record in the 50 freestyle at 15 yrs old. I was a member of the JR Olympic team in 1980,1984, swam for the US Jr National Team in 1986, and swam at the 1988 Olympic time trials qualifier! I started coaching club in 1998 and high school swim at Northwestern high school in 2005 to 2010. I became head coach at WCCS in 2007 to present.
Share with us about your family, any hobbies you enjoy, and what brought you to WCCS.
I am married to my wife Cathy, and we have 3 children - Camery, Tegan and Pace. I enjoy painting, drawing and crafting. Cooking is a passion.
What do you love most about coaching at WCCS?
For 13 years, I have enjoyed being part of the WCCS family and the opportunities to lead and mentor the many young men and women over these many years. To be the light for each of them regardless of background, to be the encouraging voice regardless of experience, to be able to be a part of their lives and watch them grow is a humbling experience.
How do you encourage our WCCS student athletes to bring their Christian faith onto the athletic field?
Be an example. By your choices, you reflect not only your own character, but the character of this team and its coaching staff.
How do you believe WCCS athletics helps prepare student athletes for life?
As a coach, I have always been asked to describe what my job as a coach is. I have always answered that my position as a coach is to give every one of the young men and women I have the opportunity to coach every opportunity to succeed - not only in sport but in life. With that, and the fact that through our faith in Christ we are prepared for the battles ahead, the hard work and dedication needed in training for swim gives them the tools they will need to succeed in life.
