"I hope to teach the little ones to love and enjoy music that is God-honoring, educational and fun. The songs that they put into their hearts at this age will be with them for a lifetime. I want my students to learn that God is pleased when they worship Him with their music."
Position for 2020-2021: Early Childhood Music Teacher
College & Degree: Wheaton College, BM Voice Performance; University of South Carolina, Masters of Music, Voice
Mrs. Kendra Husband has joined us as our Early Childhood Music Teacher this year! Please join us in welcoming her to the WCCS family! Previously, she has served as the Director of Music for several churches. She has also served as the founder and director of Voices of Carolina Homeschool Choirs and has been a voice teacher/accompanist for the Clover High School Choraliers. She and her husband, Kent, have three young adult daughters who are in college and early careers. They are active members at Relevant Church in Lake Wylie. Read on to find out more about her passion for encouraging our youngest students to worship the Lord!
Tells us something that we would be surprised to know about you:
I grew up in Missoula, Montana and my family would spend our summers as a gospel singing group traveling around in a station wagon and a camper.
Describe how you feel God has called you to your particular career path:
Music has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up in a very musical and ministry-minded family and was always encouraged to sharpen and share my God-given gifts. While homeschooling my daughters for 14 years, I incorporated music into all of their learning. It's been a very rewarding experience to teach the next generation through music.
What attracted you to WCCS?
I've known about the wonderful reputation of WCCS throughout the years and was thrilled when an opportunity arose to join the faculty here.
In what particular ways do you hope to shape the learning or spiritual experience of our students here at WCCS?
I hope to teach the little ones to love and enjoy music that is God-honoring, educational and fun. The songs that they put into their hearts at this age will be with them for a lifetime. I want them to learn that God is pleased when they worship Him with their music.
The WCCS mission statement is “educating students to bless our world as disciples of Jesus Christ”. How do you hope to accomplish this as a faculty/staff member?
Psalm 8:2 says that "From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise on account of Your adversaries, to silence the enemy and avenger." This would be a great goal of mine to fill the world with young children praising the Lord and silencing the Enemy.
What is your biggest desire for each student that walks in to your classroom or office?
I want each of them to know that they can learn to be self-expressive through music, rhythm, and movement. I would also want for each one to grow in their love for music and be exposed to different styles and songs. I would want them to know that they are loved by God and that He is pleased with their worship.
