Educating students to bless our world as disciples of Jesus Christ

Nash Family

"I love surrounding our children and really, our whole family, with educators and staff who encourage faith and share similar values and priorities. I love that our children are not embarrassed or shy about their beliefs. And, I love that these beliefs are woven into every part of their day - that they are actually practiced not just preached."

Rorie and Addie Amos have been a part of the WCCS family for 5 years now. Rorie is a recent graduate of WCCS, currently attending the University of South Carolina, and Addie is in the 10th grade. Read on to find out what mom, Nicki, has to say about how she feels WCCS has prepared her girls well for life after graduation.

Why did you choose WCCS for your child?

We wanted a Christian education where our children could be encouraged in a smaller environment with staff members who would encourage their individuality and strengths.

What do you love most about WCCS?

I love surrounding our children and really, our whole family, with educators and staff who encourage faith and share similar values and priorities. I love that our children are not embarrassed or shy about their beliefs. And, I love that these beliefs are woven into every part of their day - that they are actually practiced not just preached.  This goes a long way in ensuring they remain woven into their entire lives.

What is one word that describes our school? Tell us why you chose that word.

I would say Village. That's really what any parent wants for their child - a village to stand with them when things are going well and support them when they need extra attention and to lead them to their next milestone. A place where you can depend on those around you (faculty, staff, parents and even other students) to help your child find a balance between praise and encouragement and see them for their strengths and help them improve their weaknesses.

Describe one of your favorite teachers and the impact that this person has had in your student's life - or perhaps a specific example of a way this teacher has cared for your student in a special way.

The girls have had too many teachers at WCCS who have impacted their lives for me to name them all here. However, I will tell you that I have noticed, and appreciated, that the people at WCCS see my girls differently. They GET that they have different strengths that need to be encouraged and different weaknesses that need to be developed.

How is WCCS preparing your child for God's call on their lives, including hopes, plans, and dreams for college, career, and/or community?

Rorie James has already found a Bible study and a church she loves in college. Even while meeting new friends and joining a sorority at USC, she went into college openly professing her faith. It is simply a part of her everyday life and it has followed her even after she left WCCS. As a parent, what more can you want for your child? Also, she and Addie both are quick to defend their faith and they are able to articulately argue real-life Christian principles. This is a direct result of applying these principles daily at WCCS and of being surrounded with Christians.

What would you tell another parent to encourage them to consider enrolling their child at WCCS?

If you are looking for a village to support you in surrounding your child or children with Christian principles they will carry with them after graduation and into the real world, this is it. If you are looking for a place where your children will connect with teachers and bring home stories of exceptional teaching moments they witnessed during the day, this is it.  If you are looking for a place where your child will get in the car at the end of the day and tell you about the amazing chapel they had that day, this is it. If you are looking for a place where your child can find extracurricular activities to encourage their talents, leadership and team building skills, this is it. If you want a place where your child can be encouraged for who they are and have opportunities to flourish all while being educated in a loving, supportive Christian environment, this is it.
